China Sideways
About the magazine

Culture before
the itinerary.

China Sideways is an independent English-language editorial project connecting Chinese culture with practical travel planning.

What we publish

We organise routes around making, music, migration and architecture. Our 60 free articles explain subjects and offer workable starting sequences. The cultural database links these with 20 topic desks and original-host references. The shop currently sells thirteen concise travel PDFs and an original ten-guide collection. New cultural route articles are free; they are not included in those existing PDFs.

How to read a route

Articles are research-based unless a firsthand report is explicitly identified. Cultural context is linked to museum, heritage, municipal and reporting sources. The order of visits, pacing and viewing exercises are editorial proposals. We distinguish older reporting from current operating information and do not promise private studio access or unconfirmed performances.

Images and films

Photographs are credited individually. Object and regional reference images are labelled when they do not show the actual route destination. Films stay with their original hosts; we do not resell or reupload them.

The shop and planning

PDF purchases are one-time digital purchases. Trip planning is a separate service; accommodation, tickets, transport and workshop fees are not included. The service page explains its scope and has a trip enquiry form. Briefs are sent to quotepilot.contact@gmail.com through FormSubmit. Editorial mentions are not sponsored listings, and the source links in this issue are not affiliate purchase links.
