Before planning China: check entry conditions for your own route

A headline about visa-free travel is a starting point for checking, not an instruction to purchase a particular flight. Your passport, purpose and onward journey matter.

Use the current official policy page

Start with the National Immigration Administration and the relevant consular or visa authority for your circumstances. Check your passport type and nationality, intended purpose, dates and length of stay. Keep the current official source with your planning notes. This article does not determine your eligibility or replace individual advice from the responsible authority.

Ordinary entry and transit are different questions

The NIA’s transit guidance describes travel onward to a third country or region and conditions attached to the applicable route. Do not assume that a return trip to the same place is equivalent to transit, or that a policy headline permits unrestricted movement everywhere. Check the permitted entry/exit points and areas in the current official guidance.

Make the flights and route agree

Before paying, compare the official conditions with the itinerary you intend to book: arrival point, onward destination, confirmed dates and time in China. If the route changes later, repeat the check. A hotel booking, airline advertisement or a friend’s different passport experience does not establish your own eligibility.

Keep the planning stage flexible

Do the eligibility check before buying non-refundable domestic links. Then choose the number of bases and the essential cultural visits. If you are unsure which rule applies, ask the appropriate official service with your exact route and document details. Once those constraints are clear, an itinerary can be designed around them. The arrival toolkit offers a preparation checklist and official links; it intentionally avoids a nationality list that could become stale.
