Three days in Beijing: palace, hutongs and one Great Wall day

A first Beijing visit becomes easier when each day has a different scale: the palace axis, a neighbourhood walk and one excursion beyond the city.

Day one: palace space

If admission is secured, make the Forbidden City the main event and give it a substantial part of the day. Use lunch and a shorter Jingshan Park visit as the change of pace. Do not add every nearby monument automatically: each may have separate access rules and can turn one good visit into a chain of rushed commitments.

Day two: a neighbourhood day

The Bell and Drum Tower surroundings and Shichahai offer a useful northern-city pairing. Choose a limited public-street route with time to sit. Respect residential entrances and privacy. A longer lunch can give this day as much value as another ticketed attraction. Use it as a flexible day if the palace booking changes.

Day three: one Wall section

Choose one officially open Great Wall section and arrange the complete outward and return journey. Decide what the quote includes before paying. Keep the evening light and avoid a tightly timed departure afterwards. In poor conditions, use a city-based replacement instead of forcing the excursion.

Make the short route fit your arrival

These blocks assume full local time. If arrival or departure consumes a block, shorten the sightseeing plan or add a night. Choose the base area around the route and save exact Chinese place names before using a local map. Current entry, transport and weather still need checking for your dates. The eight-page PDF adds accommodation-area choices, arrival notes, food ideas, a spending worksheet and a Chinese-name/source desk; custom planning is useful when your dates, interests or gateways require another order.
