Three days in Shanghai: organise the visit by district

A waterfront day, a neighbourhood day and an art day make a more coherent short visit than a list of isolated landmarks scattered across the city.

Day one: riverfront and old-city scale

Start with a manageable Bund walk, looking at the buildings behind you as well as the skyline across the river. After lunch, choose the Yuyuan area as the second block. Distinguish the ticketed garden from surrounding streets. Keep a night view optional; it does not have to include a cruise or an expensive meal.

Day two: smaller streets

Use Wukang Road and adjacent public streets as a neighbourhood focus. Choose one nearby cultural or indoor pause only if you want it and it is open. Keep dinner in the district or around your base. This day becomes less enjoyable if you cross the city repeatedly for individual shops.

Day three: one museum and its surroundings

Choose the actual exhibition and museum branch first, then stay around that district for the afternoon. Shanghai Museum branches, Museum of Art Pudong and West Bund venues are different locations. The stronger choice is a show you want to see with time afterwards, rather than several museums visited in a rush.

Make the short route fit your arrival

These blocks assume full local time. If arrival or departure consumes a block, shorten the sightseeing plan or add a night. Choose the base area around the route and save exact Chinese place names before using a local map. Current entry, transport and weather still need checking for your dates. The eight-page PDF adds accommodation-area choices, arrival notes, food ideas, a spending worksheet and a Chinese-name/source desk; custom planning is useful when your dates, interests or gateways require another order.
