First: get comfortable in your base
Choose old-town-edge accommodation for easier meals and public streets, or a lakeside setting when scenery matters more and you have planned the transport. Ask where a vehicle can stop with luggage. Use the first substantial day for a limited old-town route and a seated pause rather than adding a full lake circuit.
Second: choose one public lakeside segment
Research a permitted part of the Erhai ecological corridor and the return transfer. Keep a turnaround point. Check local access and rental rules instead of assuming every vehicle in a video is allowed. Wind and sun can change how a gentle-looking day feels; leave flexibility rather than chase a complete circuit.
Third: Xizhou or another local day
If the day is fully free, plan Xizhou as a return outing with time for lunch and a small public-street route. If departing, stay around your base and prepare the real station or airport transfer. A mountain excursion would require a separate planning block; it is not an automatic addition to the village day.
Make the short route fit your arrival
These blocks assume full local time. If arrival or departure consumes a block, shorten the sightseeing plan or add a night. Choose the base area around the route and save exact Chinese place names before using a local map. Current entry, transport and weather still need checking for your dates. The eight-page PDF adds accommodation-area choices, arrival notes, food ideas, a spending worksheet and a Chinese-name/source desk; custom planning is useful when your dates, interests or gateways require another order.
