Listen before asking for access

The UNESCO documentary is an accessible introduction to the texture of Grand Song. Hear it first, and avoid arriving with a script for what residents should perform. A recorded introduction cannot tell you what a particular community wants from visitors today. A local host can help establish whether a meeting or performance is appropriate.

Pay for the agreed work

Interpreting, hosting, teaching and performing take time. Agree what is included, who is organising it and how payment is handled. A souvenir purchase is not automatically payment for an unplanned recording session. If a host declines an interview or photograph, accept that answer without making the rest of the visit uncomfortable. Your curiosity does not create an obligation.

Keep the itinerary worthwhile without the song

A journey that collapses when no choir is available puts pressure on everyone. Build a village route that also values architecture and ordinary public space. Music can then deepen the visit instead of rescuing it. Do not label a short commercial performance as the complete tradition. The film and background reading offer preparation, while current access must be agreed locally.
