Start with the product, not the promise

UNESCO’s tea introduction covers processing and social practices and names several tea categories. For a tasting, record the product name, origin information provided by the seller and the category claimed. Do not infer origin from the colour of brewed tea. A dramatic story about a mountain cannot replace traceable product information. Ask what processing description is being used and keep the seller’s explanation distinct from what you can taste yourself.

Change one brewing choice at a time

Use the same tea for a small comparison, changing one thing such as steeping duration while keeping other choices similar. Record the amount, water and time if they are available. A beginner’s tasting does not need an elaborate score. Describe what becomes stronger, weaker or harder to enjoy. Your preference is a useful result even when it differs from the host’s. Avoid presenting a casual comparison as proof that a tea is genuine or healthier than another.

The social setting also matters

Sharing tea can structure a conversation and a visit. Notice how the host introduces the tea and when drinking creates a pause. The same product can be experienced differently in a busy shop, a home or a quiet tasting. Our diagram separates leaves, processing, brewing and sharing to keep those questions visible. It is not a recipe or a ranking of traditions. Follow the official film for background and current product information for the tea actually in the cup.
